One day, Natsume encounters a demon that appears as a maneki-neko at a shrine where she was chased by a demon, and learns from a demon named Madara that she finds out about the existence of the "Friends Book," a belonging to her grandmother Reiko. The Book of Friends was written in which Reiko, who was able to see the youkai like Natsume, wrote her name as proof that she would make the youkai as a subordinate because of her loneliness. [Series Story] A mysterious, sad, and nostalgic tale of Ayakashi, Natsume Takashi, a boy who can see the evil spirits, takes on the "Book of Friends" left behind by his grandmother, with the demon Nyanko-sensei in the form of a beckoning cat. After finding the remains of his grandmother Reiko, "Friend Book," he begins to be targeted by demons. The "Book of Friends" was a bundle of contracts with names that Reiko had taken from the youkai. The purpose of the youkai targeting Natsume is to regain the stolen name. Natsume decides to return his name to the youkai along with Nyanko-sensei, the youkai bodyguard who looks like a beckoning cat.
