Title "Babe Ruth" Yanagawa Goichi Year of birth: March 30, 1902 (Meiji 35)) Date of death: April 26, 1986 (Showa 61) A painter and sculptor from Hakodate, Hokkaido. He graduated from Tokyo School of Fine Arts with the top spot, and has been active as an illustrator for children's magazines, picture books, and more, including Shonen Club. As a sculptor, he has created works such as the statue of Takadaya Kabei in Hakodate City and the statue of Miura Tamaki (Madame Chou) in Glover Garden in Nagasaki City. He also joined the establishment of the Japan Publishing Artists Federation. His masterpieces include illustrations such as Yamanaka Minetaro's "Three Hundred of the Enemies," Minami Yoichiro's "The King of the Jungle," and "Treasure of the Demon Sea," and Edogawa Ranpo's "Twenty Faces of the Monster," and the Boy Detectives. ◇Relationship with war paintings The exhibitions relating to war art were exhibited at the Army Art Exhibition (1st) in 1943, and at the 1st Holy War Art Exhibition in 1949 and the 1st Greater East Asia War Art Exhibition in 1942.
